The 21st century is shown by the increasing of knowledge and technology. Other than that it is undeniable that the world will continue to change. The jobs and skills that required in present may be obsolete in the next few years. As the world makes progress in the global paradigm, there is a profound shift in terms of reference about ways of life, work, society, and how individuals are viewed and governed. The National Education Association (nd) has identified 21st century skills as "The 4Cs." This theory includes critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration.

One of the most prominent 21st century competencies is critical thinking skills. Having critical thinking skills will enable you to think quickly, assess problems, and find the best solutions - especially when you don't know the answer right away. Not surprisingly, the ability to think critically is also one of the most sought after skills in almost every industry and workplace. Critical thinking skills refer to one of the learning and innovation skills in the learning age.  Critical thinking is a term we hear a lot, but many people don't really think about what it means or how to use it. This article will tell you what critical thinking means and what made us realize that the average person ignores critical thinking.


What is Critical Thinking

Critical thinking means making logical, well-thought-out reasoned judgments. It is a way of thinking in which we not only accept all the arguments and conclusions we face, but also have an attitude that involves questioning those arguments and conclusions. This requires wanting to see what evidence is involved to support a particular argument or conclusion. 

People who use critical thinking are people who say things like, 'How did you know that? Is this conclusion based on evidence or a hunch? ' and 'Are there alternative possibilities when given new information? All the skills one needs to successfully face the challenges of an increasingly complex and uncertain life and to succeed in life and a career in the world of work are 21st century skills. Then what are the benefits we get in the society if we have the following brilliant critical thinking skills? Let's see them:


1) Create lots of new ideas 

By adopting critical thinking behaviors, employees and companies will not respond to problems just by making assumptions. More than that, critical thinking skills will enable us to find new solutions and ideas from the various possibilities that exist to help solve problems efficiently. 


2) Fostering teamwork

In the critical thinking process in the workplace, many parties can be involved both in one team and across functions. So that more people are involved in this critical thinking process, besides that there will be more choice of solutions for the company, teamwork can also be fostered. That is why critical thinking skills will greatly help the development of employees and companies in the future


3) Time efficiency

Critical thinking skills can teach both employees and managers to prioritize time and resources. This is done by systematically analyzing what is useful and what is not. That way in the end employees can make decisions correctly and quickly. 


4) Improving relationships between employees

Critical thinking can make employees more open-minded and better able to understand other people's points of view. Employees with critical thinking skills will also be able to show empathy in the workplace so that it can affect the quality of relationships when interacting with various types of people in the workplace. 


5) Increase employee creativity

Employees are often required to be able to produce creative solutions needed by the company. The solution must be useful and relevant to the task at hand. Critical thinking skills will greatly support these needs. Employees who have the ability to think critically will be able to evaluate existing ideas, choose the best and change them if needed. 

 

A person does not have this skill since birth, but this skill can be acquired through the process of practice, study, or experience. So, here are some tips for developing critical thinking skills 

 

The first way that can be taken is to join a debate club. This way we can examine the issue at hand, take a stand against it, and then debate your opinion will force you to think critically. Besides being able to develop critical thinking skills, there are other benefits that are very useful when we join a debate club, including:


 

A. Seeing things from various sides

This will get us used to seeing the problem as a whole, without the slightest doubt. So we will get used to making decisions by weighing the pros and cons, and not just judging other people, because we know, there must be a reason behind that person's opinion.

 


B. Learn to defend opinion

Have you ever disagreed with another person?, and then we found it difficult to convince others, because we didn't know how to make a coherent and logical argument? Maybe so, yes. Well, the debate club will train your skills in constructing coherent, logical, and easy-to-understand arguments for the other person.
