Monaco 2024: Charles Leclerc Echoes while Max Verstappen Downgrade
On the Sunday afternoon
of May 26, 2024, became a highly anticipated moment for the Ferrari team and
its fans as Charles emerged victorious at the historic Monaco circuit.
The Monaco Grand Prix is
renowned as one of the most iconic circuits in the world of Formula 1.
Constructed on the streets of Monte Carlo, the circuit presents unique
challenges to drivers with its sharp corners, narrow roads, and little room for
error. The circuit's famous tunnel passing beneath the Monte Carlo Casino
building offers an unparalleled racing experience.
With strategies built by
Leclerc during Free Practice (FP) 1-3 and into the qualifying rounds from
Friday to Saturday, he positioned himself favorably to clinch the Monaco GP
trophy. Thus, the man born on October 16 was greeted with joy by the team, and even
his fans. Moreover, other drivers also shared in the joy of Leclerc's victory
on his home turf.
However, it is
regrettable that the star driver of Red Bull Racing, Max Verstappen, had to
face setbacks at the Monaco GP 2024. This is because the strategy employed by
the man dubbed 'Mad Max' did not yield satisfactory results. As we know, the
Red Bull team typically focuses less on Free Practice in each race; their
primary focus lies in the qualifying rounds and securing Pole Position. In FP1,
Verstappen occupied the 11th position, FP2 saw him in 4th place, and he began
to climb in FP3, reaching 2nd place.
As indicated on the F1 classification board, Leclerc topped the rankings in FP2, while Verstappen stood at 4th place. In FP3, Leclerc maintained his lead position, with Verstappen trailing in second place.
Why is the Pole Position
advantageous? This is because of the narrow streets and sharp corners of the
Monaco circuit. It's quite challenging to overtake for drivers starting behind
the Pole position. Additionally, the order of victory at the Monaco GP usually
aligns with the Pole or grid start. From Leclerc in first place to Verstappen
in sixth.
Verstappen's defeat at
the Monaco circuit was eagerly anticipated by other teams and fans, such as
McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes, and others. This is because, over his nearly 9-year
career, Verstappen has amassed numerous victories and holds the record for the
most podium finishes in F1, with the latest count being 104 podiums in 193
races.
